Liturgical Ministries

Altar Servers

Altar servers assist at the altar during the Liturgy as well as other special paraliturgical celebrations. Girls and boys who are in the fourth grade and beyond, as well as adults, participate in this ministry. Interested candidates should volunteer through Religious Education.

Children's Scripture Circle/Liturgy of the Word

Children's Scriptural Circle is celebrated within the Sunday 10 a.m. Mass from October through May. After the Introductory Rites, children from ages three through first grade are invited to go to the Parish Hall for that weekend’s Scripture readings, songs, prayers, and other activities which have been prepared to promote more active participation and understanding by the children. Children rejoin their families and community at the Preparation of Gifts.

Eucharistic Ministers

Eucharistic Ministers are post-Confirmation men and women who are trained and commissioned to be lay ministers of the Eucharist. They assist in distributing the Body and Blood of Christ during the Mass. At the pastor's request, some may bring Communion to the sick and homebound.

Lectors

Lectors are post-Confirmation men and women who participate in the ministry of proclaiming the Word of God to the people and give voice to the General Intercessions. Those interested in this ministry should contact Fr. Grimes.

Liturgical Environment

Members of this ministry will create an environment for prayer and worship by: 1) planning and implementing appropriate church décor (including flowers) during “ordinary” times of the liturgical year; 2) planning and implementing, with the Liturgical Celebrations ministry, the church decorations (flowers, linens, banners, posters, etc.) appropriate for the liturgical events being celebrated during the Advent, Christmas, Lenten, and Easter seasons; 3) arranging for the ongoing care of flowers within the church.

Special Celebrations

Participants in this ministry will assist in planning Sunday and Holy Day liturgies; Advent and Christmas services; Lenten, Holy Week, and Easter services; and other celebrations such as the renewal of marriage vows on World Marriage Day.

Children's Christmas Pageant

Those serving in this ministry are responsible for coordinating and preparing children for the Christmas Pageant for the 4 p.m. Christmas Eve Children’s Mass.

Crowning of Mary

On a Sunday in May, a statue of Mary is crowned by children in the Religious Education program 1-5. The activity is coordinated by that department of Religious Ed.

Music

Our Parish Choir enhances our sung prayer at Liturgy, and supports congregational singing at the 10:00 AM Sunday Mass during September through June. There is always room for more -- adults, young adults, and children are always welcome to join the choir!

In cooperation with St. Theresa’s Parish, a Contemporary Music Group leads the community in song at a 5:30 p.m. Sunday Mass during Advent and Lent. Instrumentalists and vocalists are needed.

Sacristans

Sacristans are responsible for keeping the sanctuary and sacristy in order including caring for the sacred vessels, polishing candlesticks, laundering small linens, and arranging cleaning of large linens and vestments as necessary.

Welcoming Ministry

Greeters/ushers have the privilege of making the first official contact with those who gather for worship as they welcome each person to the House of the Lord. Participants in this ministry are also responsible for introducing new parishioners to others in the community, assisting with seating or meeting other special needs, passing collection baskets, coordinating Communion “traffic” if necessary, and distributing bulletins.
