Spiritual Formation and Development Ministries

Adult Formation

Members of this ministry will plan various programs such as speakers, discussion groups, and Bible study groups - anything that would assist parishioners on their faith journeys and enhance their spiritual development.

Men's Spirituality Group

This group of men meet on the second Monday of each month to discuss their Catholic faith in their lives and to share their faith experiences, hopes and concerns through friendship, prayer, and study. Various discussion topics help members of the group understand and apply Catholic values in their careers and homes, share those values with others in their group, and support other men who are struggling to do the same.

Religious Education Grades 1 - 5

The elementary Religious Education students use the RCL textbook series, Faith First Legacy Edition. This series teaches the pillars of the Catechism – Creed, Sacraments, Morality, and Prayer in every grade level. The focus question, “What Difference Does Faith Make in My Life?” is reflected in all these units: We Believe: The Creed, We Worship: Liturgy and Sacraments, We Live: Christian Morality, We Pray: Christian Prayer, and We Celebrate: the Liturgical Year. Formation for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion begins in Grade 1.

Faith Formation Board Grades 1 - 5

The function of the group is to assist the Director of Religious Education in the role of intentionally facilitating faith formation for youth in Grades 1 - 5 and their families in ways that promote life-long spiritual growth. The group meets approximately six times a year.

Religious Education/Youth Ministry Grades 6 - 12

These grades are part of a cooperative program with St. Theresa’s Parish in Sherborn. Grades 6 and 7 meet on Mondays from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Grades 8 and 9 begin prerequisites for Confirmation preparation while Grade 10 is the final year in preparation for celebration of the sacrament of Confirmation. Christian service is integrated throughout the program. Teens in Grades 11 and 12 participate in a Peer Ministry Program with the main emphasis on development as leaders and mentors for programs, retreats, and prayer experiences for Grades 6 - 9 as well as the participation in various parish ministries including Parish Council. Each spring we seek twenty to twenty-five adult volunteers for the next year of the program.

Faith Formation Board Grades 6 - 12

This board is comprised of adults and youth from both MPB and St. Theresa parishes. The function of the group is to assist the Director of Religious Education and Youth Ministry (DREYM and the Grade Level Coordinators) in their role of intentionally facilitating faith formation for youth in Grades 6 - 12 and their families in ways that promote life-long spiritual growth. The group meets six times a year.

Rites of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) and for Children (RCIC)

Adults and children who request to learn more about or become members of the Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation) take part in the RCIA and RCIC processes.
